The Dutchess County Department of Behavioral and Community Health said that on Wednesday, Sept. 19, the fox was seen in Rhinebeck on West Market Street near Starr Library.
They noted the behavior may suggest the fox has rabies. It remains at large in the area.
Residents are being warned to avoid any contact between the fox and any people or domestic animals.
Anyone who spots the aggressive fox has been asked to contact the department by calling (845) 486-3404 during work hours or (845) 431-6465 on nights and weekends.
